Waihi. — Sophia Copestake (n6e Foley) is charged on warrant with obtaining £7 17s. from Hugh Montgomery Stewart, farmer, Katikati, on or about the Ist April, 1902, by false pretences. Description : A half-caste Maori, about thirty-four years of age, 5 ft. 4 in. high, dark hair and complexion ; divorced from her husband about nine months ago.

Cambridge. George Johnston, Robert Sullivan, and Jack Sheehan are charged on warrant with obtain ing board and lodgings from Emma Peirce on the 2nd instant by false pretences. Descriptions: First About thirty years of age, about 5 ft. 9 in. high, slight build, dark hair and eyes, dark moustache only, swarthy complexion ; dressed in grey coat and vest, pepper-and-salt trousers, and black-felt hat. Second—About twenty-three years of age, about 5 ft. 6 in. high, brown hair, dark moustache only, black mole on upper lip ; carrying a small swag wrapped in a rug. Third—About twenty-two years of age, 5 ft. 4 in. high, slight build, jockey appearance, clean-shaved, fair hair and complexion ; dressed in shabby grey suit and straw hat. Offenders were last seen at Frankton Junction, and may make for Auckland.

New Plymouth. George Anderson and John Cavill alias Shiner are charged on warrant with having, on the 18th ultimo, at Okato, wilfully broken windows the property of Alexander Baker; value, £4. Descriptions : First—A labourer, about twenty-five years of age, 5 ft. 6 in. high, medium build, brown hair, very small brown moustache only, hard sharp face. Second—A labourer, twentythree years of age, 5 ft. 7 in. high, medium build, fair hair, partly bald in front, clean-shaved, larrikin appearance. Supposed to have come south.

Inglewood.— Joseph Hannam, charged with default of fine for obscene language, has been arrested by Constable J. W. Hollis, Auckland police. Fine and costs paid.

Hunterville.— George Ross is charged on warrant with having assaulted William Thomas Corney, farmer, on the 7th instant. Description: A native of New Zealand, labourer and bushman, twenty-two years of age, about 5 ft. 9 in. high, slight build, fair complexion; dressed in blue sac suit, hard black-felt hat, dark shirt with turned-down collar, tan boots or shoes; was carrying a small swag in a grey blanket with three straps. Supposed making for his home at Omega, South Island.

Pahiatua. — Robert Taggart is charged on warrant with carnally knowing, on the 29th ultimo, Myrtle Amy Webb, a girl under the age of sixteen years. Description: A native of New Zealand, baker and labourer, twenty-five years of age, 5 ft. 9 in. high, slight build, long thin features, sallow complexion, dark-brown hair, small brown moustache only ; generally wears a dark suit and hard hat, may have a shepherds’-plaid cap. Photograph filed in the Inspector’s office, Wellington. He is also charged with failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child. Pahiatua. — John Robinson is charged on warrant of commitment to the Terrace Gaol, Wellington, for seven days in default of paying £1 6s. 7d. fine and costs for travelling on the railway without paying his fare. Description: A native of Scotland, labourer, about fifty years of age, 5 ft. 4 in. high, square build, square face, clean-shaved except small sandy moustache ; dressed in dark trousers and vest, grey sac coat, and dirty white soft-felt hat; is fond of drink. Went towards Woodville on the Ist instant.

Pahiatua.— Frank Crawley is charged on warrant of commitment to the Terrace Prison, Wellington, for seven

days in default of paying £1 6s. 7d. fine and costs for travelling on the railway without paying his fare. Description: A native of New Zealand, about thirty years of age, 5 ft. 9 in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, longish features, reddish moustache only; dressed in dark coat and vest, dark-grey trousers, brown hard-felt hat; had a tent swag; shabby appearance ; fond of drink.

Sydney. — Percy Brien is charged on warrant at Sydney with obtaining £73 by false pretences, between the 12th March and Bth April this year, the money of Albert Jurd.
