Absconding from Industrial School.
James Cavill Riddler, alias Richer, absconded from the Burnham Industrial School on the Ist instant. Description : About eighteen years of age, 5 ft. 8 in. high, fair hair and complexion, light reddish moustache, blue eyes, pug nose, nostrils expanded, slouching walk, sensual degraded disposition, slow articulation, quiet respectful manner; dressed in moleskin trousers and vest, tweed coat and cap, and heavy lace-up boots. He was convicted of forgery at Timaru on the 17th September last. (See also Police Gazette, 1901, pages 171 and 244.)
Alexander Harwood absconded from the Burnham Industrial School on the Ist instant. Description : About seventeen years of age, 5 ft. 8 in. high, broad smiling face, light hair; dressed in blue dungaree trousers, brown tweed coat and vest, peaked cap, and heavy boots. He was accompanied by above offender, and may make for Wellington.
Deserters from His Majesty’s Service. From H.M.S. “Penguin,” at Auckland. On 6th November, 1902. Frederick G. Turnbull, boy, Ist class, 5 ft. 6 in. high, dark-brown hair, sallow complexion, dressed in brown suit, red tie, dark skull-cap, and turned-down collar. A reward of £3 will be paid for his apprehension, in addition to £5 from the Colonial Government.
From H.M.S. “ Wallaroo,” at Wellington. On 4th December, 1902. Richard Johns, A. 8., native of England, twenty-three years of age, 5 ft. 4 in. high, black hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion, crossed flags tattooed on left forearm ; was recently discharged from Wellington Gaol (see “Discharged Prisoners, ” this issue of Gazette).
From H.M.S. “ Pylades,” at Sydney. On 22nd November, 1902. James Smith, domestic, 2nd class, a native of England, thirty years of age, 5 ft. 11 in. high, black hair, blue eyes, dark complexion, scar on left shin. A reward of £3 will be paid for his apprehension.
