Auckland. — John McKenzie (name supposed fictitious) is charged on warrant with false pretences on Walter George Mason, Symond Street, on the 6th ultimo. Description : A native of Scotland, speaks with strong Scotch accent, about fifty-five years of age, 6 ft. high, stout strong build, fresh healthy appearance, sandy beard and moustache, beard trimmed to a point and turning grey ; dressed in brown-tweed coat and vest, brown-moleskin trousers, and brown Dr. Jim hat; has the appearance of a farmer. He gave complainant a valueless cheque for £2O in payment for a tombstone, and received in change £9 10s.

Auckland. —Alexander A. Summerville, farmer, reports that on the 21st August last his name was forged to a cheque for £ll7 and uttered to the Bank of New Zealand, Auckland. Suspicion attached to Thomas Lamb. Description : A native of New Zealand, twenty-one years of age, 5 ft. 8 in. high, slight build, fair hair and complexion, thin long features, respectable appearance and manner; dressed in light-tweed sac suit and grey-tweed cap. He was employed by Summerville up to 18th August last, and arrived from Wellington in June last, where, it is said, he had been employed in the Post Office Department. Supposed gone to Sydney.

Auckland. — Bernard Anderson is charged with failing to comply with the terms of his release under “The First Offenders’ Probation Act, 1886.” Description : A native of Finland, sailor, twenty-four years of age, 5 ft. 6,§ in. high, fair complexion, dark-brown hair, blue eyes, blue scar on eyebrow, moles on neck. (See Police Gazette, 1902, pages 119, 143, 155, and 187.) He arrived in Auckland on the 26th October last from Gisborne, but failed to report himself, and his arrest is now desired.

Auckland.— Frederick McPherson, alias Agnew, charged with illegally pawning. a gold watch-chain, has been arrested by Constable Mark Cassin, Hokitika police.

Waitara. —-— Neilson (name probably fictitious) is charged on warrant with having, on the 7th ultimo, forged and uttered a cheque for £lO to William Tompsitt, farmer, XJrenui. Description : Supposed Scandinavian, about forty years of age, about 5 ft. 7 in. high, reddish complexion, stoutish build, clean-shaved except fair moustache ; had on a soft brown slouch' hat. The blank cheque was obtained from Mr. Gordon, Dannevirke, and purported to be signed by Greenaway and Henderson. Offender is supposed identical with Charles. Nelson, who went towards Te Kuiti on 10th ultimo riding a bay Maori horse, a small swag in coloured rug on front of saddle.

Foxton. — Charles Richard Bushett is charged on warrant with having, on or about the 6th ultimo, stolen a cheque for £3l 11s. 6d., the property of Charles Bushett, and forged his father’s signature to the indorsement of the cheque, which he cashed in Wellington. Description: Colonial, labourer, eighteen years of age, 5 ft. 7in. high, medium build, sallow complexion, dark hair and eyes; fond of cardplaying and loafing round hotels; sometimes works about flax-mills, and is well known in Wellington, where his mother resides in No. 118, Willis Street.

Upper Hutt.— Harry Sangster is charged on warrant of commitment to the Terrace Gaol, Wellington, for seven days in default of paying £1 2s. fine and costs for abusive language. Description: A native of England, cook and baker, about forty years ol age, about 5 ft. 8J in. high, slight build, pale complexion, blue eyes, light-brown hair, very fair moustache only; generally dressed in light clothes and black hard hat.

Mount Cook (Wellington). —Thomas McGuire, alias Pidgeon, charged with default of fine and costs for assault, Las been arrested by the Palmerston North police. Fine paid.

Description : A native of Ireland, seaman and labourer, thirty - six years of age, about 5 ft. 6 in. high, medium build, swarthy complexion, dark hair, clean-shaved except moustache, large nose, shield on left arm ; dressed when last seen in shabby dark-tweed clothes.
