Deserting Wives and Families, &C.
Auckland. Henry Thomas Spain is charged on warrant with disobeying an order of the Court to pay £1 a week towards the support of his wife. Description : A native of India, a labourer, thirty six years of age, sft. 5f in. high, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, grey eyes, medium nose, upper front tooth out, top off third left finger (see Police Gazette, 1899, page 245). May be found working on the goldfields, under the name of Payne or Thomas. There was £26 due up to the 27th August last.
Wanganui. — William Morris is charged on warrant with deserting his children. Description: Supposed native of New Zealand, a labourer, about thirty-eight years of age, 5 ft. 6 in. or 7 in. high, medium build, dark complexion and hair, dark eyes, full face, clean-shaved except dark moustache, quiet manner, generally works bushfelling or at flaxmills. On the 13th February, 1900, ho placed his children in the Wanganui Infants’ Home and agreed to pay£l a week for their support, but has only made two payments. He left Taihape on the Ist April last, and was seen in Wellington in July. He formerly resided in Shannon.

Palmerston North. —Edward Higgs, charged with disobeying an order of Court to contribute towards the support of his illegitimate child, has paid the arrears due.
Mount Cook (Wellington). Joseph Weir Simmonds is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child. Description: A native of England, a carpenter, nineteen years of age, about 5 ft. 8 in. high, stout build, olive complexion, grey-blue eyes, round full features, no hair on face, usually wears a serge sac suit and cap or straw hat. Photograph filed in the Inspector’s office, Wellington. Complainant: Edith Isabella Howell, King Street, Wellington.
Christchurch. — Edward Beale is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the maintenance of his illegitimate child. Description: A native of New Zealand, a tanner, twepty-four years of age, 5 ft. 9in. high, medium build, dark complexion and hair, clean-shaved except slight dark moustache (see Police Gazette, 1901, page 172). He was ordered to pay 7s. a week, and to find security in £IOO that he would comply with the order. As no minute of the order has been served on him, he is not to be arrested before communicating with the Inspector of Police, Christchurch.
Christchurch.— Charles Cockroft is charged on warrant with deserting his wife, Agnes Cockroft, since the 12th instant. Description : A native of New Zealand, a labourer, twenty-five years of age, about 5 ft. 5 in. high, medium build, fresh complexion, blue eyes, red hair, small moustache only; dressed when last seen in brown sac suit and brown Dr. Jim bat, black shoes, and white sweater. Generally wears a gold heart-shaped brooch set with green and white stones. He has relations at Roslyn named Patterson, and was employed near Dunedin by a nurseryman named Lantog.
Christchurch.— Archibald Blue is charged on warrant with deserting his children since the 28th ultimo. Description : A native of New Zealand, a cook and labourer, thirty years of age, sfb. 5 in. high, slight build, fair complexion, blue-grey eyes, clean-shaved except moustaohe; dressed in blue sac suit and hard felt hat (see Police Gazette, 1896, page 179).
Timaru. — Peter Stewart is charged on warrant with failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child. Description: Colonial, a grocer, about thirty years of age, about 5 ft. 6 in. high; stout, square build ; florid complexion; round, chubby face; dark-brown hair, moustache only; generally wears dark or dark-brown suit and hard dark hat; is fond of horse-racing and sports. On the 29th ultimo he left Timaru for Christchurch races, and may be found in the North Island. Complainant: Annie O'Connor, Pleasant Point.

Timaru. —Henry Heron, charged with failing to provide for the maintenance of his illegitimate child, has been arrested by Constable R. Crawford, Timaru police.
