Stealing Otherwise than from the Person or from Dwellings.

James George Lyons, charged on warrant with stealing ferrets at Anderson’s Bay, the property of John Booth, has been arrested by Constable Alfred Edward Remer, Pembroke Police, on information supplied by Constable Patrick Nolan, Clyde Police, remanded to Dunedin, and sentenced to two months’ labour. He was going under the name of George Bennett, and is identical with Thomas Smith, sentenced on the 15tli July last, at Roxburgh, to fourteen days’ labour for larceny. Stolen about the 20tli ultimo, from an unoccupied house in Molesworth Street, Wellington, a kerosene-lamp, bronze stand, red-glass bowl and frosted globe; a lithographic picture about 18in. square, subject “ 80-peep,” black woodeu polished frame ; and a child’s toy wickerwork perambulator, with four iron wheels ; the property of Phoebe Smith ; value £l. Stolen on the 28rd or 24th ultimo, from anew building in Cuba Street, Wellington, a rip-saw with hollow back, maker Diston; a hand-saw, an oilstone 9in. by 2in., a screw-driver with “ Sumons” stamped thereon, a new clawhammer, a 2ft. rule, four-fold; a draw-knife without handles, a ljin. firmer chisel, a pair of snips, a carpenters’ kit containing a liand-saw, a 3in. square, small piece broken off the blade; an American claw-hammer, a hand-saw, maker Diston ; a pair of compasses, four firmer chisels, sizes Jin., lin., ljin., and IJin.; an oilstone in wooden case, an iron patent brace, two bits, sizes Jin. and Jin. ; a 2ft. rule, a lead-pencil in tweed pocket, and two iron punches; the property of Charles Sumons ; value £4 10s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 24th ultimo, from the yard of the Te Aro Hotel, Willis Street, Wellington, a canary and cage; the property of Thomas Smith; value £l. The cage has since been recovered.

Stolen on the Ist or 2nd ultimo, from the wharf at Shortland, Thames, a hag containing 18Glb. of kauri gum ; the property of William Jones ; value £4.

Stolen on the 19th or 20th ultimo, from the clothes-line of Walter Birch, liopu Hotel, Thames, three white honeycomb counterpanes and a white knitted sofa-cover; value £1 12s. Identifiable.

Stolen between the 18th and 21st ultimo, from a fence on the railway-line between Allswell Street and Peat’s Crossing, Wanganui, about thirty birch rails, 9ft. long; the property of the Government; value £l.

Stolen between the 24th ultimo and 3rd instant, from a trunk in the railway-shed, Dunedin, or on board the steamer “ Mararoa ” between Port Chalmers and Wellington, or at Wellington, two necklets: one a fine gold chain, clasped at back of neck, and a pendant in front made of gold leaves, enamelled a rich blue, with a cluster of diamonds in the middle, and small diamonds hanging down from it; the other was made of small pearls and pieces of crocidolite (a brownish yellow gleaning stone, sometimes called Cape cat’s eye); the property of the Hon. Richard Oliver. Identifiable.
