At the Government House, at Wellington, this twentysecond day of May, 1888. Present: His Excellency the Governor in Council. WHEREAS by “ The Fisheries Conservation Act, 1884 ” (hereinafter termed “ the said Act ”), it is, among other things, enacted that the Governor in Council may, from time to time, make, alter, and revoke regulations for the purposes therein mentioned, which said regulations shall have force and effect only in any waters or places specified therein : And whereas by Order in Council dated the tenth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eightyeight, certain regulations were made, in exercise of the powers conferred by the said Act, prescribing, among other things, a close season for seals: And whereas it is expedient to extend such close season for seals : Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers conferred on him by the said Act, and by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby make the following regulation : The close season for seals in the Colony of New Zealand, prescribed by the regulations made under the said Act by Order in Council bearing date the tenth day of January, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight, is hereby extended until the first day of June, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-nine. Clerk of Licensing Committee appointed. Department of Justice, Wellington, 22nd May, 1888. HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Constable Timothy Cahill to be Clerk of the Licensing Committee for the Special Licensing District of Thermal Springs, vice Constable B. Moroney, transferred.

Inspector of Weights and Measures, Tuapeka, appointed. Colonial Secretary’s Office, Wellington, 19th May, 1888. HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Sergeant Henry Green to be an Inspector of Weights and Measures, under “ The Weights and Measures Act, 18G8,” for the County of Tuapeka and the Boroughs of Lawrence, Roxburgh, and Tapanui, vice Constable Bowman, transferred. “ The Dog Registration Act, 1880,” extended to County of Raglan.

(1.5.) Wm. F. DRUMMOND JERVOIS, Governor. A PROCLAMATION. WHEREAS by a Proclamation under “The Dog Registration Act, 1880,” dated the twenty-fifth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-one, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the thirty-first day of March, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-one, the County of Raglan was excluded from the operation of the said Act; And whereas it is expedient to extend the operation of the said Act to the said County of Raglan:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise of the powers vested in me by the said “Dog Registration Act, 1880,” do hereby repeal the above-mentioned Proclamation, and do hereby declare that the operation of the said Act is extended to the County of Raglan, and that such operation shall take effect from the date hereof.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Gliief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same ; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-eighth day of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eightyeight. The Prison at Lawrence declared a Police Gaol. (1.5.) Wm. F. DRUMMOND JERVOIS, Governor. A PROCLAMATION. Colony op New Zealand, | TO WIT. j WHEREAS by an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “ The Prisons Act, 1882,” it is provided that the Governor may, by Proclamation published in the Gazette, declare any house, building, or enclosure to be a police gaol, and, from and after the gazetting of any such Proclamation, or from any later time specified in the Proclamation, such house, building, enclosure, or place shall bo deemed a police gaol: And whereas it is desirable to proclaim the prison at Lawrence to be a police gaol: Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance of the above-recited power and authority, do hereby declare that the house and buildings at Lawrence, in the Provincial District of Otago, now constituted a prison under the said Act, and all enclosures used or occupied therewith, shall, from and after the publication of this Proclamation in the Gazette, be a police gaol within the meaning and for the purposes of “ The Prisons Act, 1880.” Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same ; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this thirtieth day of May, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-eight. HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint Constable John Twomey to be Clerk of the Resident Magistrate’s Court at Opunake, and Clerk of the Licensing Committee for the District of Opunake, on and from the 22nd May instant, vice Sergeant Langtry.
