(See Police Gazette, 1888, page 32.) William Lowry, charged on warrant of commitment to gaol in default of paying 10s. fine and 10s. costs for using abusive language to John O’Malley, has been arrested by Detective Robert Neill, Christchurch Police.
Jeremiah Hickey is charged, on warrant issued by the Pukekohe Bench, with disobeying a summons to appear at the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Pukekohe, on the 21st ultimo to answer a charge of having assaulted William Maroney and Patrick Hogan, at Pukekohe, on the 31st January last. Description: A native of the colony, a bushman, about twenty-two years of age, sft. 6in. high, stout build, dark hair, clean shaved, swarthy complexion, repulsive face; may be wearing a blue-serge suit and soft hat; fond of drink and fighting.
Charles Farrelly, alias James Riley, is charged, on warrant issued by the Auckland Bench, with deserting his wife at East Tamaki, near Auckland, since the 29th November last. Description: Irish, a navvy and farm-labourer, twenty-eight years of age but looks older, sft. Bin. high, stout build, square shoulders, dark complexion, small brown eyes, black hair usually worn short, clean shaved except dark moustache, sullen appearance, usually wears dark coat and brown cord trousers; addicted to drink. He is supposed to have left Onehunga on the 2nd December last by the steamer “Gairloch” for South. James Riley is believed to be his proper name. He formerly worked as a railway navvy at Johnsonville, and may have gone to Westland to obtain similar employment on the Midland Railway-line. He married complainant at Howick under the name of Charles Farrelly, and told her his father and brothers were farmers living at the Lower Hutt; but it has been ascertained he is not a member of that family.

Richabd Wheeler, alias Daniel Thomas Richard Wheeler, charged on warrant with disobeying an order to pay 10s. a week towards the support of his three children, was arrested for the offence in Dunedin ; but, as the Resident Magistrate before whom he was brought on the 28th ultimo declined to remand him to Naseby in the absence of the warrant, ho was discharged. He is now clean-shaved, except moustache. He said he intended going harvesting on William Mee’s farm, Chatton, near Gore.
(See Police Gazette, 1887, page 126.) Walter S\v anger, charged, on warrant of commitment to Wanganui Gaol, for one month’s labour for disobeying an order to maintain his children, has been arrested by Constable Barry, Woodville Police.
William McKain is charged, on warrant issued by the Napier Bench, with refusing to provide for the support of his two illegitimate male children, aged six weeks, by Mary O’Donnell. Description: A native of the colony, a carpenter, about twenty-four years of age, sft. lOin. high, slight build, fair complexion, thin face, prominent nose, scar on one lip from where a cancer had been removed, light-brown or fair hair, small fair whiskers and moustache, chin shaved ; usually wears light-brown or grey tweed suit and.hard black hat. He was last seen in Napier about a month ago.
