Michael Kavanagh is charged, on warrant issued by the Dargaville Bench, with the larceny, as a bailee, on the 2nd ultimo, at Kopura, Wairoa North, of a repeating rifle, a double-barrel breech-loading gun, and a shot-belt, since recovered ; the property of M. W. Marriott; value £4O. Description: Irish, has been gum-digging, and travelled selling Singer’s sewing-machines some time ago. About thirty-five years of ago, sft. Tin. high, stout build, dark complexion and eyes, black hair and moustache, left leg has been broken, and is bent outwards; dressed in dark-check tweed coat, and sheplierd’s-plaid trousers. He left Dargaville on the 4th ultimo, by the steamer “ Kino,” for Helensville. His mother keeps a boarding-house in Auckland.

Stolen on the 21st or 22nd ultimo, at New Plymouth, a tether-rope, about twenty yards long ; the property of Robert Henry Gibson ; value 2s. Identification doubtful.

Stolen on the 27th ultimo, from off a horse at Patutahi, Poverty Bay, a saddle, recently lined and stuffed, hogskin seat and knee-pads, and imitation-hogskin flaps, new pieces on points of pommels, a new girth-strap on off-side, oldfashioned odd three-bar Victoria-silver stirrup-irons, and a double-rein snaffle-bridle, blue-and-white forehead-band, Victoria-silver bit, and square silver buckles; the property of William Geddie; value £6. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to a Maori, name unknown, twenty years of age, sft. Sin. high; wore check-pattern tweed coat, and bluish-grey tweed trousers. He went towards Big River Bridge.

Stolen on the night of the 25th January last, at Edendale, Southland District, a small black-and-tan collie slut with smooth hair, well trained, heavy in pup, or may have littered, answers to the name of “Bess;” the property of John Thomson ; value £ls. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to Edward Smoothey, a native of the colony, a labourer, about twenty years of age, sft. 6in. or Tin. high, medium build, dark complexion, large nose, thin dark short beard whiskers and moustache; wears dark clothes. He is at present working about Fortrose.

Stolen on the 7th or Bth ultimo, from the gold-mining claim of John Gregory and Hugh Horner, Black Lead, near Charleston, a quantity of black sand estimated to contain about four ounces of gold.

Stolen between the 15th and 22nd ultimo, from the goldmining claim of Kim Hoc, Home Gully, near Naseby, about forty-two yards of canvas-hose, used for mining purposes, marked tj on every two yards of the entire length; in good repair ; value £6. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 18th ultimo, from the wharf at Lyttelton, a wickerwood basket, 14in. by 12in., containing a white tablecloth marked “ Britton,” a large carving-knife and fork, a poultry carving-knife and fork, two large table-knives, six small table-knives, marked “Elliott;” six large silver forks, two small silver forks, four dessert-spoons, six teaspoons, and a bottle of limejuice; the property of Thomas Foster; value £6. Identifiable, except limejuice.

Stolen on the 28th ultimo, from off a cart at the Wellington and Manawatu Railway-station, Wellington, a nearlynew blaclc-and-brown tweed sac-coat, two outside sidepockets and a left breast-pocket, lining of left-breast torn, and the lining torn out of left sleeve; the property of William James Symons ; value 15s. Gd. Identifiable.

Stolen on the 29th ultimo, from a cabin of the steamer “ Selembria,” at Napier, a ladies’ black-leather bag, about 16in. by 12in., in which was a black-leather hand-bag, about Gin. by 4in., containing forty-eight sovereigns and a letter of credit for £2OO, issued by the London and County Bank, 21, Lombard Street, London, on the 7th December last, in favour of Harriet R. Foster, payable at all branches of the Union Bank of Australia, in Australia and New Zealand ; the property of Mrs. Harriet R. Foster. On the 27th January last Mrs. Foster drew £SO from the branch of the bank at Sydney, and on the 28th ultimo drew £SO from the branch of the bank at Napier, against the amount in the letter of credit, and indorsed the letter of credit “ Harriet R. Foster ” on both occasions. Bags and letter of credit identifiable.

Stolen on the 2nd instant, from a cart at Waimarama Road, Tukituki Station, Hawke’s Bay, a nearly-new very dark macintosh coat, red-and-black plaid lining, a small tear on one side near bottom, open very high up at back, two buttons on waist at back, and two buttons and small straps on skirts to fasten round legs when riding; the property of Charles Dugald Kennedy ; value £3 15s. Identifiable.

Stolen on the night of the 28th ultimo, from the clothesline of A. M. Ollivier, Opawa, near Christchurch, a white counterpane and a pair of worsted drawers; value 7s. Gd. Counterpane identifiable.
