Miscellaneous Information.
Resignation. Constable Denis Guerin, No. 255. Police Station closed. The police-station at Waipori, in the Lawrence District, has been closed.
Reioards. The sum of £8 has been awarded to Constable Patrick Leahy, Petone Police, for the arrest of a deserter from Her Majesty’s ship “Nelson.”
The sum of £5 has been awarded by Messrs. Whittingham Brothers and Instone, and the sum of £2 from the Reward Fund, to Constable Arthur H. Wright, Invercargill Police, in recognition of the tact and discretion shown by him in connection with the arrest of William Henry Irwin, committed for trial for breaking into and stealing from Messrs. Whittingham Brothers and Instone’s store ; also for the arrest of Robert Wells, committed for trial for receiving part of the stolen goods.
The sum of £2 has been awarded from the Reward Fund to Constable Daniel O’Donoliue, Timaru Police, in recognition of his services in stopping a runaway horse, with carriage attached, at great personal risk.
The sum of £2 2s. has been awarded by the Hutt County Council to Constable Patrick L. Harnett, Lower Hutt Police, in recognition of liis prompt action in putting out fires on the Hutt Bridge on several occasions.
The sum of £2 has been awarded by Messrs. R. IL Shakespear and Edwin Harrow to Constable Alfred James Mitchell, Paeroa Police, in recognition of his services in recovering a boat and other property stolen from them, and for the arrest of William Shurman, sentenced to three months’ labour for the offences.
