Deserters from Merchant Vessels.
Michael Dogherty is charged with deserting from the ship “ Nelson,” at Port Chalmers, on the 27th or 28th ultimo. Description: Irish, an able seaman, twenty-five years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, stout build, dark fresh complexion, dark-blue eyes, dark-brown hair worn short, clean-shaved, slightly pockpitted ; wore shabby black-cloth suit and black wideawake hat. He was seen in Dunedin on the 28th ultimo. A reward of £2 is offered for his arrest if effected on or before the Ist proximo.
Daniel Elliott and George Leishman are charged with deserting from the steamer “ Elderslie,” at Oamaru, on the 27th ultimo. Description : Elliott is a native of the North of England, a stoker, about thirty-six years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, medium build, reddish hair, clean-shaved except reddish moustache ; may be dressed in a dark coat and dark-grey-tweed or dark-moleskin trousers. Leishman is English, a fireman, twenty-five years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slight build, dark hair beard whiskers and moustache worn rather short; may be wearing a new dark-tweed saccoat and light-tweed trousers.
Joseph Jeffries and August Leinstrum are charged with deserting from the steamer “ Elderslie,” at Oamaru, on the sth and 6th instant. Description; Jeffries is English, thirty-five years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, medium build, very dark beard and moustache, cheeks shaved, right hand injured; wore long black coat, black trousers, and hard blackfelt hat. Leinstrum is a German, twenty-seven years of ago, 5 feet high, medium build, fair hair and complexion, very small blue eyes.
Hugh Lindsay, George May, and Peter Schonebergen are charged, on warrants issued by the Wellington Bench, with deserting from the barque “ Glenmore,” at Wellington, during the night of the 12th instant. Description: Lindsay is an Irishman, an ordinary seaman, twenty-one years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, slight build, fair complexion, fair hair, no hair on face; usually wears grey-tweed suit. May is a negro, an able seaman, thirty-five years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, medium build, black curly hair beard whiskers and moustache; usually wears blue-cloth suit and hard felt hat. Schonebergen is a German, an able seaman, twenty-eight years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, medium build, fair complexion, fair hair beard whiskers and moustache. A reward of £2 each is offered for their arrest.
William Taite, Denis Campbell, Charles Perks, and John Novis, able seamen, are charged, on warrants issued by the Wellington Bench, with deserting from the barque “Brisbane,” at Wellington, during the nights of the 9th, 12th, and 13th instant. Description: Taite is Scotch, thirty-two years of age, about 6 feet high, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair, clean-shaved except dark moustache and goatee. Campbell is Scotch, twenty-three years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, stout build, fair complexion and hair, cleanshaved except fair moustache. Perks is Scotch, twenty-two years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, medium build, fair complexion and hair, no hair on face. Novis is English, twenty years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, dark complexion and hair, clean-shaved. A reward of £3 each is offered for their arrest.
