Missing Friends.

Joseph Farrar Jones, licensee of the Grand Pacific Hotel, Ocean Beach, near Dunedin, is missing from there since the 7th ultimo. Description: A native of the United States of America, an hotel-keeper, &c., fifty-two years of age, about 6 feet high, medium build, sallow complexion, grey hair, whiskers, and moustache, chin shaved, stooping gait. His clothes were found at 6 o’clock on the morning of the 7th ultimo, on the Ocean Beach, by Louis Routher, who says that he saw a corpse among the breakers at the time. As the body has not since been found, and as Mr. Jones was in embarrassed circumstances, it is thought that he may not be drowned. Ho was licensee of the Excelsior Hotel, Melbourne, in 1860, and came to this colony from there in 1862, and since then, up to the time of his disappearance, kept and managed hotels at Invercargill and Dunedin.

Information is requested respecting the whereabouts of William Hargreaves Birtwell, about 5 feet 7 inches high, fair complexion, small beard ; when last seen wore grey suit. He left his home in Oamaru early in January last for the purpose of going to Dunedin to consult a doctor about a cancer or tumour in his stomach from which he suffered. It is said that he came to Wellington, but he cannot be heard of here. Inquiry is made for him at the request of his wife, who resides at Oamaru.

Information is requested respecting the whereabouts of Francis Edward Lyddiard, a carpenter, twenty-four years of age, about 5 feet 3 inches high, fair complexion and light curly hair. He left Plymouth on the 11th July, 1877, by the ship “ Waitangi,” for this colony, and in February, 1878, was heard of from Christchurch, and then said he was trying to obtain employment as a barman. Before coming to the colony, he resided at Denham Fishery, Axbridge. Inquiry is made for him at the request of Eliza Lyddiard, Denham Fishery, near Axbridge, Bucks.

Information is requested respecting the whereabouts of John Lyttle, late of Kakaramea, Patea County, a North of Ireland man, a blacksmith, thirty-one years of age, 6 feet high, stout build, blue eyes, dark curly hair, and brown whiskers; dresses well, and is fond of frequenting hotels and places of amusement. He sometimes goes by the name of James Lyttle and William John Little. He arrived at Auckland on the 29th January, 1875, by the ship “ Moerine.” He left Wanganui in September last, supposed for the Canterbury District, where he will likely endeavour to obtain employment at his trade or in a foundry. Inquiry is made for him at the request of his wife, who resides at Normanby.
