Deserting Wives and Families, &c.

Samuel Henry Richards, charg'd on warrant with deserting his wife and child at Heathcote Yalley, has been arrested by Probationary Detective Arthur Kirby, Timaru Police, and remanded to Christchurch.

James Croggs, charged on warrant of commitment in default of paying a fine of £l, and 9s. costs, has been arrested by Detective Lionel D. Benjamin, Wellington Police, and discharged on payment of amount due.
Richard Quin is charged, on warrant issued by the Wanganui Bench, with deserting his wife and three children at Wanganui since August last. Description; Irish, a labourer,
thirty-eight years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, red whiskers and moustache. He left Waitara in August last for Auckland, and when last heard of was working for a Mr. McGuire at Newmarket.
John Symes deserted from the licensed service of James Gawn, at Balclutlia, on the 22nd ultimo. Description: A native of the colony, about thirteen years of age, about 4 feet high, sallow complexion, dark eyes, brown hair cut very short; wore dark-tweed jacket and vest, coloured moleskin trousers, lace-up boots, and straw hat. He was licensed from the Caversham Industrial School to Mr. Gawn. Supposed to have gone to Tapanui.
