Incendiarism.
£2OO Reward. Notice is hereby given that a reward of £2OO will be paid to any person who shall give such information to the police as will lead to the arrest and conviction of any person or persons concerned in wilfully setting fire to premises in New Zealand. John Hade. Constabulary Office, Wellington, 9th December, 1879.
Ok the morning of the 25th of February last a hut at Wait aka, Southland, in which Francis F. Smith and Joseph Lake were sleeping, was maliciously set on fire, which was soon after discovered and extinguished before any damage was done. At an inquest held on the 6th ultimo, by J. N. Wood, Esq., Coroner, to inquire as to the cause of the origin of the fire, the following verdict was returned, viz., “ That the hut was wilfully set on fire by some person unknown.” The fire was discovered by a Mrs. Pacey.
