HAWKE’S BAY.
Mrs. M. A, Perry’s Horses in Training to be Offered -at Auction—Local Horses Under Orders for the Steeplechase Meetings at Gisborne. NAPIER, Monday. Parisian Diamond and Asterina left Hastings last Monday morning for Ellerslie, where they are to be tuned up for the winter gathering of the Auckland Racing Club, and if they reproduce in public their private efforts there will be some foreign stake money drifting back to the “Bay.” Sid Reed, who went in charge of the brace, is shortly surrendering control of Mr. G. D. Beatson’s horses to A. McAuley, and it would be a fitting wind-up to the association if Reid has the pleasure of leading in the pair as winners at the Great Northern meeting. The stallions Gazeley and Heather Mixture are to be at the. service of breeders in these parts during the season, Mr. J. Whitaker, who recently purchased Sensitive, having control of the brace of sires. The foal sister to Will Oakland (Finland —Trebelli), who, like him, was bred locally, has had the name of Finella bestowed upon her. Mrs. M. A. Perry intends in the very near future to send up for public sale the whole of the team of horses
in training owned by her. She will still continue to breed for selling purposes from the stud mares at present stationed at Otatara. The sultan of the harem will be Formative, who in the past has not had the opportunities that were really due to hi*m, for there is no question about him being got the right way. The headlines of his pedigree read: By Seaton Delaval —Formula, by Hotchkiss (son of Musket) —Formo, by Sterlingworth (imp.)—Pulchra (imp.), by Rosicrucian—Formosa. Seaton Delaval, who was imported from England, was by Melton, who during his turf career in England made a swath along the victorious route.
Not a single Hastings or Napier Park-trained gee-gee is amongst the acceptors for the 'first day of the Otaki Maori Racing Club’s winter meeting. Manhattan and Croesus arrived at Greenmeadows the other day from their home quarters at the Lake Station, Wanstead. They are awaiting a favourable opportunity to go on to Gisborne to assist at the ’chasing fixture there this month. Other horses trained at Greenmeadows who are under orders for the same destination are Goldshine (who executed good work in conjunction with Bagdad at Napier Park on Saturday morning), Fife and Drum, and Hookah, the latter of whom showed, out real well in her efforts at the try-out on Saturday. She has of late been under the tuition of S. Lindsay.
