C.J.C. Midsummer Meeting Attracts Excellent Entries.
CHRISTCHURCH, Monday
Most of the Riccarton horses with engagements at Trentham left here for their destination on Friday evening.
The Canterbury Jockey Club has received excellent nominations for its summer meeting, to be held on January 31. Thirteen are listed for the Midsummer Handicap, including such well-performed ones as Amythas, Affectation, Royal Stag, Athens 11., Royal Star and Nightraider, while in the Craven Plate are a number of good sprinters. Only seven have been paid up for in the Middle Park Plate, and in Winter Wind and Moorfowl the Chokebore stable looks to have a strong hand.
Mr. G. L. Stead will be represented in the Middle Park Plate by his re-cently-acquired colt, Right and Left, who has been responsible for several good gallops since racing at Auckland..
Affectation, who failed to run up to expectations at Ellerslie, has been galloping attractively since reaching Trentham, and should be seen to advantage during the Wellington Racing Club’s meeting this week.
