Total, £lOO Os. 6d. * * * * Red Cross Tournament, The Auckland Ladies’ Golf Club’s Red Cross tournament was commenced on September 27. The weather was fine and the course in good condition. In the morning an 18-hole medal handicap was played, in conjunction with the qualifying event for the championship. Miss Marnie Buckleton was the winner of the medal round with a gross score of 105, handicap 34, net 71. Miss M. Cooper, 92 —15—77; Mrs. Dargaville, 91 —12 —79; and Miss S. Payton, 88— 7 —Bl, were the next best scorers. In the afternoon a 15-hole bogey match was played. Miss M. Payton won the senior grade. 3 down. In the junior grade Miss Murphy, 3 down, was the winner. The first round of the open championship also was played in the afternoon. Miss N. MacCormick defeated Miss K. Holmes, 4 up and 2 to play; Miss S. Payton defeated Miss M. Cooper, 4 up and 3 to play; Miss M. Payton defeated Miss G. Gorrie, 2 up and 1 to play; and Miss M. Alison defeated Mrs. Dargaville, 2 up and 1 to play. The tournament was concluded last Thursday. Play was marred by the high gale which blew strongly across the course all day, but in spite of this there were some interesting games. In the'morning the four-ball best-ball bogey was won by Misses M. Cooper and M. Alison, who were 2 up. The next best cards were; Miss K. Hally (Cambridge) and Miss D. Cooke (Maungakiekie), 3 down. The consolation match in conjunction with the above match was won by Miss P. McGovern (Maungakiekie), 111 — 23—88. The driving competition—best of three balls —was won by Miss S. Payton, 155yds.. and Miss K. Hally (Cambridge), 150yds., was second. The continuous putting competition was won by Mrs. Edmunds, first day, and Miss K. Holmes, second day. The championship final saw a most exciting match between Miss M. Payton and Miss Nancy MacCormick. Early in the game Miss MacCormick led, and at the turn was 3 up. The 10th and 11th were halved. The

next three were won by Miss Payton, making the game “all square” at the 14th. The 15th was halved, the 16th won by Miss MacCormick, and the 17th being halved, the game was Miss MacCormick dormy 1. Winning the last hole, she took the match and championship.
