GISBORNE RACING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Gisborne Racing Club took place on Friday last, when the following report for the year’s operations was presented to members: —“Your committee has much pleasure in presenting the annual statement of accounts for the year ending August 31st, 1918. A perusal of the balance-sheet discloses a loss of £564 14s. 2d., which is mainly accounted for by donation to Red Triangle Fund £5O, depreciation written .off £370, and bad debts £72 2s. Owing to the curtailment of; rac-

ing the summer meeting was reduced to one day, and this, together with the absence of special trains and small fields in the steeplechases at the winter meeting, naturally resulted in a reduction of revenue. Had not the above unfortunate circumstances occurred, your committee feel certain that a substantial profit for the year would have been the result. The sum of £lOOO has been invested in the War Loan. The Government received from your club the sum of £2291 12s. 4d. for taxation in various forms. The totalisator turnover for the three days was £46,378, as compared with £55,992 for four days of the previous season. The grounds and buildings have been well maintained, and are in good order. Great credit is due to the caretaker for the excellent condition of the tracks during race meetings. The amount paid away in stakes amounted to £3695 for three days, as against £4760 for four days the previous season. The membership is now 179. In accordance with the rules, Messrs. C. J. Bennett, J. W. Bright, H. deLautour, G. Matthewson, T. McConnell and G. B. Oman have been nominated for the committee. As the number nominated does not exceed the number required, the above-named gentlemen have been duly elected. Your committee wishes to place on record its thanks and appreciation to Mr. D. J. Barry in presenting the cup for the winner of the Gisborne Cup, and of the services of all the honorary officials and permanent staff of the club for the satisfactory manner in which they have carried out their duties during the year.”
