MANAWATU SHOW.
The second splendid Silver Cup sent out by the Southdown Sheep Society is again up for competition at the Palmerston Show, which takes place on October 30 and 31, and the attention of Southdown sheep breeders is called to the fact that live stock entries close on Saturday (October 12). Prize schedules may be had free on application to Secretary, Box 85. To encourage the production of good wool, the committee is offering special prizes for Romney, Lincoln and any other description of wool. Great interest is being taken in this division, and a very fine selection of fleeces is anticipated. These should be both interesting and instructive. Those interested in art, technical and public school work, photography, needlework and cookery are reminded that entries in these sections close on Saturday next (October 5). There will not be any Kennel Club show this year, owing to the loss of workers in the canine division. It is hoped that a fresh start will be made again next year.
Owners and trainers in the Soutt Island should make a special note of the fact that entries for the Gore Racing Club’s spring meeting are due on Monday next (October 7), with the secretary, Mr. J. Latham, P.O. Box 46. Gore, on or before 5 p.m. Four trotting events are included on the two days’ programme, and a good entry should result from those engaged in the light harness racing industry. F. C. Loomb, the Gisborne trainer, has the following horses under his charge: Slipstitch (Henry the First —Quickstitch), Principal Lady (Bezonian—Lady Principal), Happy Valley (Bunyan —Natator mare), Multiplane (Multifid —Natoe), and a two-year-old gelding by Good Night (the full brother to Bon Reve) from Heather 11., an imported mare by St. Denis.
