EGMONT RACING CLUB.

SPRING' MEETING. The Egmont Racing Club have already issued particulars in regard to their spring meeting, which is to be held at Hawera on Thursday, September 19. The decision of the officials of the club to hold a spring meeting will be greatly appreciated by owners and trainers, and as an excellent programme has been arranged the meeting is assured of a very large measure of patronage. Owners of hunters and hacks have been specially catered for, and there is certain to be a gratifying response from that quarter when nominations fall due. The principal event to be run at the meeting is the Mcßae Memorial Handicap (open), of 250sovs., 1%. miles, for which there should be no lack of entries. The North Taranaki Hunt Cup Handicap Steeplechase, of 200sovs., in' addition to a cup valued 25sovs., three miles, is an event that invariably creates intense interest in North Island hunting circles, only qualified hunters being eligible to compete, and' the fact of so many capable hunters being located in the Taranaki district promises well for a good entry. The Tawhiti Handicap (open), of 200sovs., six furlongs, constitutes the principal sprint event, and is certain to be freely patronised. The Ladies’ Bracelet Handicap, a bracelet valued at 20sovs. and ISOsovs. in specie, two miles, and the Hunters’ Flat Race Handicap, of 120sovs., one mile and a distance, also offer further opportunities to owners of hunters to win a valuable stake, both events being for qualified hunters only, competitors in the latter to be ridden by gentlemen riders. In addition to the Tongahoe Hack Handicap Hurdles, of 150sovs., iy 2 miles, two other hack races are included in the programme, viz., the Waihi Handicap, of 130sovs., one mile and 110 yards, and the Telegraph Handicap, of 125sov’s., five furlongs. With such a varied and interesting programme of events, the spring meeting of the Egmont Racing Club should prove one of the best on record, and will undoubtedly attract a large number of visitors in addition to the usual quota of local enthusiasts.
