COUNTRY RACING.
Last year the Kawakawa Racing Club held a day’s racing at Whangarei, the day after the Whangarei meeting, thus having three days’ racing on end in that centre. With Dargaville races about the same time, all the totalisator meetings in North Auckland were thus got over without any loss of time. Some of them did not pay and the Kawakawa Club, which has no course of its own, had a very payable meeting, but will not race this season. The Northern Wairoa R.C. have a splendid course, but are seeking to race elsewhere and it is understood, favoured racing on the Whangarei course at the same time as the Whangarei Club this season to suit the convenience of North Auckland racegoers and owners, the North having been drained of a lot of good supporters of the game and their course requiring some further attention. Failing an arangement with Whangarei, the Dargaville people contemplate asking the Auckland R.C. to permit them to hold a day’s racing at Ellerslie. Now comes word that the Whangarei Racing Club will not race this year on their own course, but are desirous of holding their meeting at Avondale and intend approaching the powers that be on the subject.
