MUSIC NOTES.
(By
“G” String.)
Messrs. Chappell and Co., Limited, the well-known music publishers, of 167-171 Collins Street, Melbourne, and 50 New Bond Street, London, forward a parcel of their latest publications. “When the Dream is There,” words by Edith Rutter-Leatham, music by Guy D’Haruelot, is a love song in slow valse time, so cleverly harmonised as to possess a stimulating as well as a charming effect. In three keys—D flat, E flat and F. “Day and Night,” words by Fred E. Weatherly, music by Alec Wilson, although strictly conventional, works up to a beautiful and unexpected climax. In three keys—A flat, B fiat, and C. “There’s a Girl in Kildare,” words by Ewan Dale, music by Frederic Norton, is in a vivacious Irish style, having both humour and grace to commend it. In two keys—A flat and B fiat. “Robin Dale,” words by Douglas Furber, music by Noel Johnson, is a taking ballad somewhat on the lines of “Robin Adair,” and easily comes within the category of songs likely to become popular. In two keys—C and E flat. “Fly Away, Pretty Moth,” is a new and effective setting of an old song. It has been arranged by Liza Lehmann in the melodious style of the ballads of two generations ago. In two keys—E flat and F. “Roses of Picardy,” words by Fred E. Weatherly, music by Haydn Woods, is a charming song. Tn three keys—B flat, C, and D. “La Fanfaluca,” by Maude Valarie White, is a light and vivacious composition for the pianoforte, and should form a gay little after-dinner number.
