The Hon. Sir James Carroll returned from his visit to England during the week, and reached Auckland on Tuesday, looking well. He was met by many old fr ends, glad to see him once more safe on his native heath. Mr. H. M Sm.eton who has been absent for the past seven months as one of the New Zealand Y M.C.A honorary comm ss oners in England and France, retur.ned to Auck and by the last mail steamer.
