It is very evident says the Victorian correspondent of the “Referee,” that if the “infernal machine,” as one cleric designated the Totalisator, is to become legal in Victoria, it will not be by the efforts of the committee of the V.R.C. At an informal discussion by the members of that body on Friday last over the bill brought before the House by Mr
Farthing, it does not (they consider) fulfill the conditions essential to the committee giving its support to the legalising of the Totalisator. The committee have a mandate from the members of the Victoria Racing Club to support the Totalisator so long as it can be legalised on conditions that will be of benefit to racing, and a preliminary perusal of the bill does not bear out that necessary advantage.
Mr. J. Robson, best known to the sporting world as the breeder of Pink'Un, Gatenby, Maupai, Teviotdale, Sir Daniel and Falstone, has a two-year-old half s’ster to the above horses, by King’s Guest, running on his nephew’s property at Te Mahanga. Mr. Robson has quitted the sport from the owning point of view, and he, therefore, intends to dispose of the filly:
