WELLINGTON.

(By

“Lorgnette.”)

WELLINGTON, November 11th. The. Opera. House is *at present ‘'dark.” The next attraction booked for this theatre is the Grant-Bailey Dramatic company, which opens a season,-on.,’December 14th, with “Qn Our Selection.”

The picture houses in the: city and suburbs all. did first-class business last week.. •

The opening of the People’s Picture Palace in Manners-street has again had to be postponed, the management having wisely decided not to commence operations until the building is out of the builders’ hands.

The Wellington City Band gave a very successful concert at Day’s Bay on Sunday afternoon.

Mr. Horace Hunt and Miss Gertrude Hunt, assisted by Miss - May Donaldson gave a piano and song recital in the Town Hall Concert Chamber this evening.

There have been several changes in the managerial staff of Hayward’s Pictures lately. Mr; John Hopkins, late advance agent for the Scott-Les-lie company, is now managing the Feilding theatre, Mr A. Rowley, who was in charge of the theatre having been transferred to the head office, Christchruch. Mr. Pattison, manager of the Dunedin theatre, who has been up here on a business visit returns to Dunedin this evening to complete arrangements for the opening of the new theatre which eventuates in about a fortnight’s time. Mr. Hayward left by the Moeraki for Sydney last Friday on a business visit.

Mr. Baxter Buck'ey gave another of his private recitals at the rooms of F. J. Pinney, Ltd., on Thursday afternoon last, when a varied and exacting programme was presented.

The Competitions open at the Town Hall on Wednesday evening the 13th Inst.

The Plimmer-Denniston Dramatic company were passengers for Sydney by the Moeraki last Friday.

Jansen’s seven nights’ season at the Opera House was a success in

every way. Jansen is even more expert in his illusions than when he was round here some six months ago. The supporting members of the combination are top-notchers in their particular line of business, especially Miss Montague, the dancer; and Mr. Les. T. Bates, the comedian. Jansen ought to do good ’ business n his present tour.

Very fine business was done at the Theatre Royal last week, the programme submitted bv the Bren-nan-Fuller management being in every way much superior to those of the past few weeks. The performance of the Crimson Ramblers is very clever from start to finish. The other items on the bill are also good.

The dates booked for the Wellington season of the Carrie Moore com-

pany, which is to be played at the Opera House, are from the 16th to the 24th January. Mr. Charles Macmahon has returned to headquarters from his visit to Christchurch. b
