NORTHERN BOXING ASSOCIATION.
MONDAY NIGHT’S CARNIVAL. The Northern Boxing Association will hold their carnival at His Majesty’s Theatre on Monday night, when an exceptionally good programme will receive the attention of boxing enthusiasts. The star contest of the evening will be the meeting of Jack Griffin and Bert Murphy, and as both men are reported in splendid fettle an exciting encounter is promised. E. O’Meara, of Auckland, will have a very tough opponent in Maxwell, of New Plymouth, the New Zealand lightweight champion, but as the Aucklander is boxing better than ever just at present, the Taranaki representative should not have matters all his own way. The Ellerslie bantams, Gilchrist and Conway will probably be given another bout against each other, in which case a fast and clever contest is assured.
A. Pooley, who will have Glen Barclay, of Mananui (King Country), as his opponent, will not have an easy task in front of him, as Barclay is credited with being a heavyweight of good calibre.
The novice tournament has attracted a large number of entries, and competition is certain to be very keen among these beginners. The past season has seen a big increase in Auckland of pupils receiving tuition in the noble art, so that the novice class shouffi be' strongly represented on Monday evening.
