The South Canterbury Coursing Club have arrangements well in hand for the coursing meeting to be held on the Timaru racecourse on August 30 and 31. A feature of the meeting is- the Grand Maiden stake of £6O (provided 50 dogs accept). Further particulars may ’be obtained from the secretary, Mr. Chas. Pearce, or from Mr. A. P. Gawne, proprietor of the Timaru Hotel. The 'first meeting of the year which was held last month, was eminently successful, the sport provided being of all-round excellence, and was a tribute to the energy of the officials. “The standard of the sport was excellent (reported the Timaru Herald). The hares from the Mount Somers district proved as fit as the dogs, and being well-trained to the escapes, kills were a rarity.” With previous successes as a criterion, the forthcoming meeting is creating considerable interest amongst sportsmen in various parts of the Dominion. The secretary intimates that he will find accommodation for owners and dogs if desired. * ’ T o « Monsieur Soult is being trained to the hurdling game at New Plymouth, so that his breakdown after the Napier Park meeting cannot have been so serious as was stated. The brother to Cordon Rouge has a lot of pace, and if he takes to the illegitimate game should make a good one over timber. ♦ * .1: » The St. Paul pony Speedy Meg won a six furlong race at the Roseberry races last week.
