John and North East carried a lot of Wanganui money in the Winter Hurdles, but neither ran into a place. John was supposed to be in quite as good form as at Ellerslie on the third day, but it is questionable whether he was at his best. As for North East his failure was not very surprising, seeing that it was his first race over hurdles. That he will score over the small sticks before long may be anticipated with confidence.

Mr. R. Narelle’s colt Grandee, was not sent to Trentham because his
