WANGANUI.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, July 9. Allan Henderson has All Black, Royal Patron, and Tamakoa in work, and they will probably be entered for the Marton meeting, ror which nominations close on the 18th of August. Royal Patron was put over the hurdles the other day, and jumped cleanly and well. Frank Lind will have the mount on Pleiades in the Steeplechase at Wellington, and also at Riccarton. This gelding’s chance in the Grand National is much fancied by many. F. Coleman will ride John in the Winter Hurdles at Wellington, and he has also been engaged to ride Smilax in the Parliamentary Handicap. John has been doing very satisfactory work lately, and his connections appear to be very confident that the Cuirassier gelding will put up a good performance. They contend that wherever

D'Nil. .had, a turn over the-bigeoun-,.try yesterday, and showed fine, jumping ability. The Crackshot gelding is engaged, in the Parliamentary Handicap at 10.2, and in the Wellington Steeplechase at 9.7. . He is expected to run prominently in the former event. . ■ Lull pulled up on three.legs after working on Thursday, and his racing career is, it is feared, at an end. Grandee had a spin over five furlongs the other morning with John and Taft. The latter showed great pace for half-a-mlle, w'hen he dropped back, John finishing in front. Grandee s showing was not very attractive, but may be he will shape better in a race. He leaves on Wednesday to fulfil his engagements in the Trial Plate at Trentham. Although North East has been jumping the hurdles very well, there are some who think tint he will not perform so attractively in a race over the small sticks, believing that he will get bustled, and put out of his stride. Alex. Hall is leaving to-morrow with North East, St. Gate, and St. Bill for Wellington. St. Gate and St- Bill have been responsible for some capital work on the tracks, and if the former only reproduces his best form in the Trial Plate, he will make things very interesting. It is said that Arthur Olliver has been engaged to ride the full-brother to St. Bill. In addition to Overtime, who has been taken up again after a lengthy spell, Frank Lind has a filly by Field Battery—Fishermaid .in work. This filly shows quality, and promises to develop into a good three-year-old. Lind is also working Seaman again. This gelding was operated upon for a throat trouble, and it is believed with success. The rehearing of the Julian case is not likely to take place before the 28tb inSt., when it is understood the W angcinui Metropolitan Committee will go into the matter again. A couple of rising three-year-olds, botn fillies, are being broken in at Stratford by B. Ellerm, for Mr A- W. Budge, president of the Stratford Racing Club. One is by Lupin, from St. Toney’s dam, and the other is by Sir Laddo, from Bowsprit. The Patea Racing 'Club are sending a deputat-on to Wellington this week to interview the Hon. D. Buddo in reference to the Racing Commission’s report. Later. A report is just to hand that Smilax has gone wrong, and will not be a starter at Trenrham.
