TURF RESULTS.

HAWKE’S BAY JOCKEY CLUB’S WINTER MEETINGFIRST DAY. THE STEERLECHASE, GOES TO YASMAK. The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s winter meeting opened in fine weather. The attendance was fair and speculation was brisk, the totalisator receipts amounting ■to £9128, as against £5635 for the first day of the winter meeting last year—an increase of £3593. Sardonyx refused when the word “go” was given, and was brought back to the paddock. Lionheart fell at the sod wall, Sunray following suit at the next fence. Hoanga ran off at the fence in front of the stand, and Kohupatiki fell at the brush fence on the back stretch, while Castle Canter pulled up. Rosegrove was tackled by Wanstead in the straight, the ■latter easily getting the better. of it, and winning by a clear length. Pushful was nearly 100 yards off. Time, 4min 39sec. Ariom got the best of the start, with Vi and Starboard on her heels. Ariom kept the lead until the straight was reached. Then Starboard forged to the front, but at the distance Vi, Peacemaker and Eclogue threw out strong challenges. In a great finish Vi just got up in time to win. Eclogue was a ■good third.
