TURF RESULTS.

OPUNAKE RACING CLUB’S MEETING. (From our Correspondent.) The Opunake Racing Club held their annual meeting on Friday (St. Patrick’s Day) in the presence of a record attendance. The weather was fine, and some excellent racing was witnessed, the winners being well concealed. Speculation on the totalisator was very brisk, the sum of £5452 being passed through during the afternoon. The results were as follows: — HANDICAP HURDLES. One mile and a-half. Mr. J. M. Laurent’s ’ Clemency, 9.8, aged, by St. Clements 1 Zante, 9.8 2 Mississippi, 9.0 3 Also started: Waitapu 10.10, Silver Cluse 9.0, Silver Slipper 9.0. Won by half a length. Time. 2min 50 4-ssec. ANNUAL MEETING. A SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. The Ohinemuri Jockey Club’s annual race meeting at Paeroa was held on Friday and Saturday last under favourable circumstances. The weather was gloriously fine, and the amount passed through the totalisator was a record for the club. Taken right through, the racing was very interesting, although in most of the events one horse stood out as superior to the others. Large fields were the rule, and the average number of starters was larger than usual. Mr. C. O’Connor, the starter, managed to get the horses away on fairly even terms and the decisions of the judge. Mr. J." Clarkin, were never questioned, while ithe secretarial duties were in the capable hands of Mr. H. Poland. Owing to the absence of the bookmakers there was a large increase in the amount of money handled by the totalisator, £4707 10s being passed through the machine on the first day, and £5694 on the second day, a total of £lO 401 10s for the meeting. Last year the total amount handled by the machine was £5275 10s. so that this year shows an increase of £5126. The results are as follow:— FIRST DAY. SHORTS HANDICAP. Four furlongs. Mr. W. Taiaha lead all tjie way, and, jumping splendidly, won easily by a-quarter of a mile. Time, 4min 49sec. NETHERTON WELTER. Seven furlongs. Mr. A. Mack’s Scotch, 9.12 (Whittaker) 1 Mr. W. Duder’s Taka, 8.4 (Deeley) .... 2 Mr. O. E. Austin’s Toa Tuhi, 8.8 (McFlynn) 3 Also started: Paeroa 8.0. From the start Taka went to the front, followed by Toa Tuhi, and the two raced together to the straight when Taka lead. Half-way down the straight Scotch put in a good run and won easily by threequarters of a length from Taka, who was a couple of lengths in advance of Toa Tuhi. Time, lmin 28 2-ssec. KOIMATA HANDICAP. Lady Cuirassier went away from the start and, leading all the way, won by two lengths hard held. Time, lmin 29 4-ssec. OHINEMURI CUP. One mile and aquarter. Mr. H. R. Mackenzie’s Monoplane, 7.7 (Conquest) 1 Mr. G. Bettley’s Miss Livonia, 6.12 (Morris) 1 Mr. Donald McLeod’s Tamainupo. 7.6 (Deeley) 3 Also started: Master 'Theory 7.6, Explosive 6.8, Fraulein 6.7. From the start Monoplane took command. and the first time past the stand she was followed by Tamainupo and Miss Livonia. Round the back Monoplane increased her advantage, and, leading into the straight, she won easily by two or three lengths. Time, 2min 8 4-ssec. KARANGAHAKE HANDICAP. Five furlongs. Mr. O. E. This race was a chapter of accidents. At the second hurdle Crispineer and Romantic fell and at the next St. Wood and Dudeen came down. Coming to the straight St. Amans was leading, and then Scotch shot out with a good run and won a good race by a length. Taka came with a late run and got second place. Time, lmin 32sec.
