PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB.

POINT-TO-POINT STEEPLECHASE. Tlhe Pakuranga Hunt Club was favoured with a beautifully fine day on Saturday, when the club brought the season to a close with the usual point-to-point steeplechases. The season just closed has been a most successful one, and the outings provided have been largely attended. Sylvia Park, the scene of action on Saturday, looked well and the attendance must easily constitute a record. There were five events decided during the after--noon, and close contests were the order throughout. In the heavy-weight steeplechase Matatua, owned by Mr. H. Prime, fell and sustained serious injury to his back and had to be destroyed. Mr. E. D. O’Rorke, the popular master, acted as starter, Mr. H. T. Gorrie as judge, and iMr. H. S. Wilson clerk of the scales, while Mr. R. K. Kinloch, the honorary secretary, looked after the nominations and the results. The Master, in the course of some happy remarks, very heartily thanked the farmers over Whose land the hounds hunted during the season, and reminded the members that without the farmers there would be no hunt. It had been a pleasure for himself and Mrs. O’Rorke to be associated with the hunt this year, and the farmers with whom they had come in contact. He was extremely pleased to see such an exceptionally large number of young farmers following, anu felt sure that their fathers and mothers would never regret allowing them to participate in such a clean and healthy sport—'the finest sport in the world. The members were also indebted to the owners of Sylvia Park, which Mr. O’Rorke reminded his hearers was historic ground. Cheers were given for the farmers and the proprietors of the Park. The valuable cups and trophies, which had been generously donated to the club, were then handed to the successful riders, after which hearty cheers were given for Mr. and Mrs. O’Rorke. Following are the results; — LIGHT WEIGHTS, minimum of 11.0.— Miss Martin’s Loughfinn (Mr. C. Dunlop), 1; Mr. E. Chadwick’s Rebel (owner), 2; Mr. F. G. Dunlop’s Gaiety (owner), 3. Gill’s Tikitere (owner), 2; Miss Kelly’s Creina (owner), 3. Five started. Won easily by several lengths from the second horse. WELTER WEIGHTS, minimum of 14.0. —Mr. J. Wilson’s Ringaway, 1; Mr. J.
