CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB’S SPRING MEETING.

THE NEW ZEALAND CUP.

The first payment in connection with the New Zealand Cup, fell due on Friday last, and in totting up the list of horses remaining in the big two mile event it is found that 51 horses have been paid up for. Formby, Danube and Ashby, who were estimated to be the best of last season’s two year olds have dropped out, but their respective owners still claim a representative each. The defections of Master Soult and Lady Lucy were expected, but the non appearance in the list of Roosevelt came as a surprise, as the son of Menschikoff was one of the genuine stayers in the race. The following are the acceptances: — NEW' ZEALAND CUP. Of 2000sovs; second horse 300sovs and third horse 200sovs from the stake. Two miles. G. M.
