HAWKS'S BAY JOCKEY CLUB’S SPRING MEETING.

: SECOND DAY. ELYSIAN WINS THE GUINEAS. The Spring Meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club was concluded on Thursday in fine weather. There was a large attendance, and the course was in splendid order. The totalisator handled £OIO7 for the day, as compared with £7439 on the second day last year, representing a falling off of £1332. The total for the meeting was £12,099, as against £13,818 of last year’s fixture. There were nine bookmakers on the ground. Reid) 2 Mr. H. Gaisford’s Tawhaki, 8.10 (C. Jenkins) 3 Also started: Nautiform 8.10, Golden Water 8.5, Reformist 8.5, Waimoa 8.5, Expansion 8.5. The favourite, Nautiform, had the misfortune to draw the outside running, and made a wide detour in order to head the others. At the back he was leading, closely followed by Tawhaki and Elysian. This order was maintained to the railway bend, when Elysian went to the front, and not being troubled in the home run, won comfortably by two lengths. Maori King beat Tawhaki for second honours by three lengths. Time, lmln. 41 3-ssec. TE MAHANGA HANDICAP HURDLE RACE of 130 sovs. One mile and a-half. Sir W. R. Russell’s ch g Corazon, 6 yrs, by Coeur de Lion—Rasulka, 10.0 (J. (O’Connell) 1 Mr. G. C. Hamilton’s Forest, 9.8 (Parramore) 2 Mr. W. J. Corazon ran to the front entering the straight and eventually justified his position as favourite by winning, although only by a long neck. Inside the distance Forest came with a late run and beat Polyanthus for second place by a length. Tiitae, 2min. 49 2-ssec. JUVENILE HANDICAP of 100 sovs. For two-year-olds. Four furlongs. Mr E. J. Winning Post got away with the lead and kept it all the way, winning by three

Rathbone’s Waioriki, 7.9 (Lowe) 3 Also started: Meremere 8.3, Idealism 7.3, Motukawa 6.7. Multiple soon showed out in front, and kept his advantage till the finish, winning by a length from Awha. Kemp)... 2 Mr. D. Kemp’s Vi, 7.11 (W. Kirk) 3 Also started: Gold Lace 9.2, Truganini 7.13, Voetgang 6.10 (carried 6.13), Ideate 6.7. Kilindini won by about two lengths.
