FATAL ACCIDENT AT RICCARTON.

A sad accident happened during the carrying out of the first day’s programme of the C.J.C. on Easter Monday. During the running of the Kildare Hurdles, Stronghold fell, throwing his rider, William O’Connell, heavily. The unfortunate, jockey was removed to the hospital, where he succumber to his injuries on the following morning. Universal regret has been expressed throughout the Dominion by all those who knew him. The deceased was a most popular horseman, and had proved himself a firstclass rider, having ridden the Great Northern Hurdle Race on Aka Aka, the Grand National Steeplechase on Eurus, and tne Wellington Steeplechase on Rongoa.
