AVONDALE JOCKEY CLUB’S AUTUMN MEETING.

OPENS ON SATURDAY. With the Easter meeting of the Auckland Racing Club concluded, sportsmen locally will now turn their attention to the Avondale Jockey Club’s Autumn Meeting, which opens on Saturday. As a splendid afternoon’s sport is always provided by the suburban club, it is hardly necessary to state that, given favourable weather, a large attendance of followers of the “ sport of kings” can safely be relied upon. The programme comprises eight events, and as they appear to be very open, some good racing should result. Special train arrangements have been made, so there will be no delay in returning to town from the course. The principal event is the Avondale Handicap, one mile and a-quarter, and for which event 12 horses figure in the acceptances. Ngapuka, who figures at the head of the list with Bst 51b, does not appear to be overburdened with weight when the class of horses he has to meet is taken into consideration. Waimangu (Bst 41b) has received all he is entitled to. Waimangu finished third in the Autumn Handicap, but as he only 7st 21b in the saddle, his performance was far from good. Sedition (Bst 11b) has been given a great chance considering that he won the St. George’s Handicap, which is run over the same distance, and finished up his task in good style. In the race mentioned Sedition only had 6st 131 b on his back, but behind him were such good performers as Downfall, All Red, Master Soult, and Moral, and also two of his opponents in Saturday’s event, viz., Ngapuka (7st 81b)’ and Waimangu (7st 71b). Lower down there appears Devonport (7st 61b), but he has yet to prove his ability to stay a mile and aquarter, and the same may be said of Wauchope (7st 51b). Inglis, who hails from the same stable as Sedition, has 7st 81b, and on paper looks to have a good chance, but perhaps a mile would be more situable to Inglis. The following are the acceptances: —
