Bamford played a fine forward game for University on Saturday, and was the pick of the bunch. The forwards will be a good deal handicapped by lack of weight, but they are all triers. ♦ • • • The ex-junior Webb was a good deal in evidence for Ponsonby, playing a hard game throughout. White armbands were worn by the Ponsonby players on Saturday as a mark of respect to the late Mr. T. T. Masefield, a patron of the c üb. • ♦ * R. W. Barry refereed the CityParnell match on Saturday, R. McGregor acting in a like capacity for the ’Varsity-Shore game, while W. Pitts was in charge of the whistle at the Ponsonby-Grafton “ cake walk.” ♦ » ♦ » Ponsonby has a fine all-round team this season, which should go close to championship honours. D. MacGregor, the New Zealand threequarter, has started business in G oucester (England) as a sports outfitter. The Northern Wairoa player Laurie was fullback for City on Saturday, and put up a very solid game. • ♦ ■ « *■. ♦ City looks like' being a good deal weaker than last year. This will not do local football' any harm, as the run of wins wab-becoming disheartening to the opposing teams. • * * » At Wellington on Saturday the senior Rugby matches resulted as follows: —Oriental (11) beat Petone (8); Poneke (6) beat St. James (3); Melrose (19) beat Southern (3); Wellington (6) beat Old Boys (nil); Athletics (30) beat Victoria College (nil). The matches at Napier resulted as follows: —Napier (6) beat Marist Brothers (3); Pakipaki (17) beat Pirates (nil); Rovers (11) beat Kia Ora (3); Hqvelock (18) beat Ahurirj (nil). « * » • Down in Dunedin on Saturday in the first grade Dunedin (22) beat University (18), after an exciting game. Alhambra (22) heat Uniop (3); Zingari Richmond (9) beat Pirates (nil); Port Chalmers (|6) beat Taieri Rovers (9); Southern (3) beat Kaikorai (nil). The results of the senior football played at Christchurch were as under: —Sydenham (6) beat Merivale (3); College (14) beat Christchurch (11); Old Boys (nil) drew with Linwood (nil). ‘ The Rugby junior competitions will commence on Saturday next. Playing under Australian rules the newly-formed Newton Club defeated Imperials by 8 goals 8 behinds to 1 goal 3 behinds.
