Karoro sailed again on Saturday for the North, and was at Kawau on Sunday. * * * * . Whangarei and Waiheke Regattas take place on Ist January. * * * The race for the cup presented by Mr. C. A. Whitney, vice-commodore of the New Zealand Power Boat Association, took place on Saturday afternoon. The course was six knots and a-half for class A and 13 knots for classes B and C, and for the final. The results were: — Class A: Entries —Iri, Venture, Edna, Snowflake, CiCntra. The latter did not start. Iri was sent away at 3 p.m.; Venture, at 3h. 2m.; Edna, 3h. Bm. 305.; Snowflake, 3h. 13m. The finishing times were: Edna, 4h. 12m. 305.; Venture, 4h. 15m.; Snowflake, 4h. 18m. Class B: Entries —Alleyne, Waimumu, Shadow, Zealandia, Marere, Edna, Snowflake, Cintra. The latter w r as despatched at 2h. 30m.; followed by Floral at 2h. 33m.; Regal, 2h. 33m.; Marere, 2h. 33m.; Zealandia, 2h. 44m.; Shadow, 2h. 45m.; Waimumu, 2h. 47m.; Alleyne, 2h. 53m. The finishing times were: Shadow, 4h. 19m. 305.; Marere, 4h. 22m. 255. Class C: Regal was started at 2h. 58m., and finished at 4h. 16m. The place getters in each of the heats competed in the final. Marere lost her propeller, and had to be towed to her moorings. Shadow was the winner. She was sent away at 4h. 53m., and finished at sh. 38m. Mr. Whitney presented the owner of the winning boat with a repeating riffle and 1000 rounds of ammunition. * * * * Despite indifferent weather many Auckland yachts are away cruising. « * * * Ariki has cruised down to Gisborne, meeting bad weather most of the way. She called at Waiheke, Whangaparapara, and Mercury Bay on the way. Mr. Horton’s smart cutter sailed for Auckland on Saturday. * * * * Viking has gone northwards for a cruise, as has another big yawl in Heartease.
It was blowing a gale off Kawau on Thursday with a big sea running, and some of the boats had a bad time. # # # * R. Tresidder arrives in Wellington on Wednescday by the Moeraki. He comes to row Webb for the championship at Wanganui « * * The yacht Thistle won the ocean race from Melbourne to Launceston for a fifty guineas trophy presented by the American paper “The Rudder.” Rambler was second and Shamrock third. Very dirty weather continuous prevailed.
