There is no doubt whatever that in Mr. . M. Barry the West End Rowing Club as a really “ live” secretary, who oesn’t spare a little extra work to help is club along. From him I have rejived a copy of the annual report and alance-sheet to be presented at the anual meeting, which takes place at St. [ary’s Bay to-morrow evening. The toll receipts for the year amounted to 294, and the expenditure to £265. The sport is a very neatly got-up booklet, ith a picture on the cover of the club’s oathouse taken from a photo, by the jcrctary.

Rainbow is having a. new mast in this sason, and Logan Bros, are busy on the ;ick now. It is a beautiful piece of timjr,, (Straight as a lance and without eiriish, and forms a striking contrast ring beside the old mast, which is arped and weather-stained. • * * *

There is a proposal afoot to disband le humane branch of the N.Z.A. Swiming Association. The Wellington sugests (1) that the humane branch be disanded and that the council undertake s duties; (2) that the Government grant j kept as a separate account, and after le council has retained a sum estimated > cover demands, the balance be districted amongst the centres as early as ossible; (3) that the register of all New ealand championship events be kept. • * * *

Mr. S. Hordern is retiring from the osition of Commodore of the Royal Aled Yacht Club, of Sydney, after holdig office for fifteen years. He has done 1 immense amount for both the club and le sport during that time. ••♦ < * The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadin intend taking official notice of the unch of the Rawhiti, and a pleasing ttle ceremony is to be arranged. The piadron will present the owner’ with a urgee, which she will fly on arrival at ort Jackson.

The yacht which Messrs. Logan Bros, re building for Nelson is now rapidly earing completion, and is a fine type of comfortable cruiser. Looking at her ean, full-bodied hull, anyone who has tiled in the open water around Nelson m feel that , the Logans have built an leal craft for that work. She is the >rt of boat that would come through ay thing and carry a dry deck in a ouble-reef breeze. The cabin is very romy and nicely fitted, and altogether le little craft looks both smart and seaorthy.

The new yacht Rawhiti, built by Loan Bros, for Mr. A. H. Pittar, the Aus--alian Lipton, is now all ready for Lunching, and her. beautiful lines are a ght to gladden the eyes. Rawhiti looks ipable of breaking all existing records, nd should give a great account of herslf oj the other side. She is beautifully nished throughout, being fitted with the tmost care, and reflecting Logan Bros.’ eservedly popular style. The cabin has rnple accommodation and Pead room for large crew, and is tastefully decorated ith neat pannelling, whilst a small dia-tond-shaped mirror, fitted into the wood ork on each side, enhances the appearnce immensely. Forward of the cabin a fine roomy forepeak with large lock's for spare gear, and snug quarters for couple of hands. Her mast is a splenid piece of timber, flawless and well set p, with just the suspicion of a rake forard induced by the head stay, whilst le main boom is another very fine stick. neat pin rail at the foot of the mast, a ;out little hand winch for manipulating ie mooring gear, and a clear deck with nough sheer to delight the eye of a conoisseur, go to make up what is undoubtlly ofie of the finest yachts that Logan Iros. have yet turned out. The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadjn is contemplating holding this season hundred miles’ ocean cruising race, he commodore is keen on such a race, nd four other owners have agreed to ater. Why not throw it open to all uckland clubs? Such an event would e very popular, and help to promote a etter feeling between the clubs.

There was a good muster of members t the annual meeting of the Royal New ealand Yacht Squadron on Thursday, nd there was also no lack of enthusiasm, 'specially was this the case when Mr. C.

P. Murdoch was re-elected Commodore, the cheering being of the most vociferous character. Ida’s popular skipper was also presented with a purse of sovereigns as a mark of appreciation of his past services. * How few members of a club realise che great amount of really hard work performed by the secretary ? I was very pleased to notice that at the annual meeting of the Royals the members showed their opinion of Air. P. H. Cole, the secretary, by unanimously voting him an honorarium of fifteen guineas. The compliment was most thoroughly well deserved. * # The race for the King’s Cup at the R.Y.S. Regatta at Cowes was rather spoilt by faulty handicapping. The starters were the Kaiser’s schooner Meteor, -112 tons; Lord Iveagh’s schooner Cetonia, 295 tons; Sir M. Fitzgerald's yawl Satanita, 300 tons; Lord Dunraven’s ketch 1 Cariad, 153 tons; S_r James Pender’s yawl Brynhild, 153 tons; and the little yawl Sulu, 80 tons, which gave up. Satanita led the German Emperor’s schooner home by nearly ten minutes, but lost to Cariad, which had the useful handicap of 56min.
