The Auckland-built yachts, Laurel and Mercia, have changed hands at Sydney. Mr F. Doran, the former owner of Mercia, received £25 with Laurel for his old favorite, and has since won a race with his new purchase. Sir Thomas Lipton has been presented with a beautiful gold loving cup by the members of the Merchants’ Club in New York, “ in recognition of his sterling display of sportsmanship.” The cup, which contains fiOOdwt. ®f gold, cost 5000 dollars, is 14in high, and rests upon a green marble base. Three mermaids form the handles, from which run sprigs of shamrock, rose, and golden rod, emblems of Ireland, England, and the United States. Toe Poverty Bay crew proved to be t;o good for their rivals, and won very easily by about twelve lengths. The winning crew were —R. Jones (stroke), VV. D.vidsan (3), J. Webb (2), C. Taylor (bow), A’ ’eane (ccx). Iu the junior race, one mile and a half, Gisborne proved the winners by a length from Union, Napier being a good third, lhe winning crew were—B Coulbourne (stroke), H. In the interprovincial model yacht races at Dun din on Saturday nine started iu the final heat, which resulted : — Mr Brittenden’s Huon Belle 1, Mr Pairson’s Eclipse 2, Mr Findlay's Heather Bebe 3 Dove (Lyttelton), Moto, and Mr Bearce's boat represented Christchurch in the final. Champion Pairs, one mile and a half —Wellington Rowing Club (Calnan and Crawford) 1, Picton Rowing Club 2, Canterbury Rowing Club 3. Won easily by a length. Time, Bmin Baec. The Australian Intercolonial Eight-oar Race and Champion Sculls will take place on the Brisbane river on May 12, and not May 5 as at first arranged. This year’s race for the Champion Sculls promises to be of more interest than on previous occasions. Three colonies will have a representative, viz, J. J. Daley (N.S.W.), C. Donald (Victoria), and M. J. Slack (Queensland). As all three men are champions in their own colonies, the race should be well contested, and the title of Champion Amateur Sculler of Australia will be a title to be proud of.

The final race of the season under the auspices of the Manakau Yacht Club was sailed on Saturday afternoon. Sarah (scr) soon overhauled the limit boats, and won easily, Belle (scr) beingsecond, and Mascotte (scr) third. The prize money and trophies won by the successful competitors were presented and handed over at a smoke concert, held on Saturday night in the lodge-room of the Public Hall, Onehunga. The members of the Auckland Rowing Club held a series of stump outrigger handicap races on Saturday afternoon, for a trophy presented by Mr H. E. Partridge. The races were rowed off in heats, with the following results: —First heat: Gooch, scr. Second heat: Fookes, scr. Third heat: Fort, Bsec In the run off for the final, Fookes won easily from Gooch, Fort bringing up the rear. A set of trial fours will be rowed next Saturday for trophies presented by Messrs Shaw and Bartlett to the Auckland Rowing Club.
