The profits of the late meeting—The Canterbury horses at Dunedin—Epaulet —Successful jockeys—Haria and Cannonshot unlikely starters for Auckland Cup. Christchurch, November 30. There will be a profit of about £1525 over the Canterbury J.C. Cup Meeting. Punters had all the best of it over the Dunedin meeting. The Canterbury horses, by the way, were very successful and were well backed every time they started. Although the team from Riccarton was not a large one, still our owners cannot complain of their success. Mr Stead won the principal races by the aid of Uniform and Conqueror, the first-named carrying off the two big handicap races, while the youngster won two classic events. Skirmisher was the most unsuccessful among the Riccarton lot; he only once gained a place and was apparently in splendid fettle when he left Riccarton, but he does not run up to his track form when racing. Epaulet, who ran in his new owner’s name (V. Harris, of Dunedin), knocked about £lOO off the £3OO Mr Harris paid Mr Stead for the son of Medallion. This horse will not, I think, be seen in Auckland this year, as he has been nominated for a number of races on the West Coast. W. Brown and R. Derrett worthily upheld the honor of Canterbury at Dunedin. Brown rode five and Derrett four winners. I don’t think either Epaulet or Cannonshot will fulfil their Auckland Cup engagements. The former will accompany the team which is going to the West Coast, while Cannonshot will be kept nearer home. Haria is over on the Coast, and will probably be racing there when the Auckland Cup is run.
