PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB GARRETT BENEFIT MEETING.

Bx Reviewer.

This popular institution will hold a race meeting at Ellerslie on Saturday next for the benefit of the widow and children of the late Mr Robert Garrett, and should the weather prove at all fine it is expected that a very large attendance of the general public will be present to witness the attractive programme of seven events which has ' been advertised. The horse owners have responded liberally in the way of nominations. On perusing the list we find that there are ten entered for the Benefit Handicap, eleven for the Hurdles, seventeen for the Shorts, fourteen for the Pony Flat Handicap, nine for the Steeplechase, eight for the Maiden Plate, and five for the Pony Hurdles. Since, the weights appeared there has not been much complaint of Mr Evett’s adjustments, therefore it may be expected that the accept-

ance list will prove to be a very good - , one. In looking casually over the weights, the only horses that strike me as having been rather harshly treated are Flukem and Chester in the Steeplechase, and Tingara in the Shorts Handicap, while I Jthink Belmont might have had a few pounds less in the Hurdles. However, with these few exceptions the handicapper has concealed the winners fairly well. . The tips will be found in our •* Anticipations” column, but my readers must bear in , mind that they are given before the acceptances are to hand. lam desired to state that special trains will run for the course at intervals, returning after the races. Another matter that I might mention is that no free tickets will be issued, and I trust the sporting public will come forward liberally with their admission money, as the object for which the meeting is got up is a most deserving one.
