CANADA
Increased prosperity has, according to the Canadian Minister of Finance, Mr. Fielding, been the result of the preferential tariff adopted in favour of Great Britain and other countries willing to give her the same advantage which the United Kingdom does. This tariff was arranged by Sir Wilfrid Lanrier, and came into force in 1898. Further concessions, which increased the reduction to 25 per cent., were allowed the succeeding year, and the result has warranted the announcement of still better terms for the future.
