NEW LAWNS.
No time should be lost in getting the land in order when new lawns are to be laid down in grass. The land should have
been turned up to the smi some time ago. ami where this has been attended to properly tin* soil should break down easily to a tine tilth. Level the soil by means of pegs, a Ifift scantling, and spirit level. This done thoroughly, proceed to roll the soil three or four times over, filling up after each rolling any slight depressions the roller may reveal. Draw a rake evenly across the soil to make a bed for the seel; sow seed carefully. making sure that every foot of land is duly seeded. The rake may then be drawn over the soil lengthways; then roll carefully, and the job is done. April is perhaps the most suitable month to sow the seed. Any fertiliser required should be put on before the first rolling, or before the first, raking, in order that it may be incorporated with the soil. Sow the best and cleanest seed procurable. Most seedsmen make up a specially selected mixture of grasses suitable for lawns.
