INSIDE AND OUTSIDE A BATTLESHIP'S BARBETTE.
'rhe lipper photo shows part of the main anil •secondary armaments of a modern ba tieship. It also shows the use of one of Admiral Percy S.-oil's gunnery inventions, "tlie knocker out.” This device is for giving instruction to the gun crews as if in battle practice. The gnu is elevated, and an ordinary rille is titled on lop of the barbette and worked in unison with the gnu. A ship is painted on a piece of board, behind which is a box tilled with sand, where -the Utile Morris Hilo' shot finds its way after the discharge, the exact position of i lie hit -being lorded on the board. In the lower picture Is lhe interior of .1 turrel. showing lhe gun-layer on -the left, with -lhe loaders on the right. Admiral Scott's latest Invention, by which guns are layed and tired from the conning tower, will do away with the necessity for gun-layers.
