November ?5. Parish Social. The Right Rev. Bishop Averill, of the Waiapu Dioeese, has been in Rotorua on two occasions lately, and advantage was taken of his return here from hakatane to entertain h-m at a parish social on Wednesday last. The gathering was held in St.' Luke's Parish Hall, and was largely attended bv parishioners, who were anxious to meet and welcome our already popular Bishop. Short and pithy addresses were made by his Lordship and bv osir vicar. Archdeacon Tisdall, and the remainder of the evening was spent in music and “chat," and, of course, supper. The programme consisted of songs by Miss Dyson, Miss S. Empson, Miss Hall, Miss M. London, Mr. Lyons, and Mr. Fannin, an organ solo by the organist. AfW R. Gardner, and a pianoforte solo by Dr. Crooke. Amongst these present were Mrs. C. Tisdall, Mr. and Mrs. Bent, Mr. and Mrs. Carter, Mr. and Mr-. Dyer, Mr. and Mrs. Halkett, Mr. arid Mrs. Thompson, Mr. and Mrs. Batten, Mrs. an! Miss Malfroy, Mrs. anl the Misses Empson, Mrs. and Miss Rhodes, Mrs. Birks, Mrs. Cragg, Mr. and Mrs. Lyons, Mrs. Grove. Mr. and Mrs. Blow, Mr. and Mrs. Hammond, Mrs. F. London, Mrs. T. Walker, Mrs. and AGs* Crowliurst, and a great many others. .Afternoon Tea. A number of guests were invited to afternoon tea at “Arawa House" by Mr, and Mrs. P. J. Hammond on Wednesday last to celebrate the opening of their croquet lawn and bowling x/ecn for this season. A most delicious tea was provided, and the lovely lawns and garden at “Arawa House’’ were very much admired. Some of the guests present were:—Mrs. T. Walker. Air. and Mrs. Urquhart.
