November 24. A Pleasant Afternoon. A small but very pleasant afternoon was given on Wednesday last by Mrs. Herdman to Mrs. L. B. Ewen, who is leaving Hamilton for a time to reside in Auckland. As the weather is still so abnormally warm and close, we all enjoyed sitting on the lawn under some large pear trees, where the breeze front the river was most refreshing. Mrs. Herdman received her guests in brown spotted muslin frock with square yoke of lace and narrow brown silk bands, large hat with brown silk; Mrs. L. B. Ewen wore pretty watercress green Sicilian with tucked net yoke and undersleeves and bands of cream laee. long cream silk scarf, hat with wreath of brown and green: Mrs. Going, tucked deep heliotrope Shantung, pretty white embroidery coat, black hat: Mrs. Gillies, graceful pale blue and white Empire dress with touches of black, hat with black cherries: Mrs. Loughnan, brown striped eoat and skirt, brown hat with touches of green; Mrs. Bayly. pretty costume with long coat and collar of blaek silk, black hat; Mrs. Tompkins, green costume. Hoz-ticultm-al Show. The Summer Show of the Hamilton Horticultural Society was held in the Town Hall on Thursday last. The weather was perfect, so that quite a large crowd assembled to enjoy the wealth of blossom displayed. Among those present I noticed: Mrs H.
