The Charm of the Linen Gown.

Difficult though it may be to explain or to describe, there is. nevertheless, an irresistible charm about the linen gown of the moment, no matter whether it may happen to be carried out in pure white, 'with just a touch of black at throat and wrists, or in any of those pale shades of grey or mauve which will be so very generally worn, as soon as the warm weather begins. Some of the most attractive of the new gowns for morning wear are being made in coat and skirt fashion and in coollooking Irish linens, chosen in pale shades of lilac and silver-grey, in the accompanying illustration may be seen a very graceful coat and skirt in lilac linen, which will make an ideal frock for sunny days. The short walking skirt is fully pleated, and offers a delightful contrast to the foolish ugliness of those gowns which are so narrow at the ankles that the wearers can only move with tiny mincing steps, for fear they should topple over. This skirt lose- nothing in grace, hut gains rather, by its ample fullness. At the waist it is cut en princesse. and arranged with a deep corselet, adorned with four jet buttons. Drawn down lightly into this corselet there is a blouse of white spotted muslin. trimmed in a new way. with a kilted frill of net. and finished with a quaint little turn-down collar of real Alencon lace, and a double piping of lilac satin ribbon. The sleeves of the blouse, which are visible from the elbow to the wrist, are also very prettily arranged with lilac satin piping and frills of Alencon lace. The long coat of lilac linen is cut in a very becoming shape, and finished with a trimming of jet buttons, and a collar and cutis of soft black satin. The hat is of the same lilac linen as the gown, adorned with a band and bow of black satin ribbon.
