September 10. Hockey Dance. A small, but most enjoyable hockey dance was held in the Town Hall on Saturday evening to entertain the Auckland Hockey team, who were playing a match here in the afternoon. Kinking. On Monday evening a private fancy dress and masked rink was held in the Alexandra Hall, which created a lot of interest ami fun. Prizes were given for the bcest fancy dress—one for the ladies am] one for the meiu. Aliss Beale, as a Spanish lady, won the ladies’ prize. Miss AL Middletoil, who ran very close for first prize, went as a gipsy; Alists Mary Roberts made the sweetest little fish wife; Miss Richardson made a sweet little Geisha girl; Mrs. Nicoll was much admired as “Powder and Patches,” in white silk, with white and gold embossed silk panniers and lace fichu; Miss Gwen Roberts was a charmUig sailor in white with pah* blue collar and white cap; Aliss Dorothy Mackay (Auckland), made a dear little Japanese lady'; Aliss Campbell (Christchurch) had a becoming frock as ‘'Starlight,” black net covered in silver stars; Mn?. L. Peake, a becoming costume as “Powder ami Patches”; Aliss lx. Hally. Norwegian peasant: Aliss Alice Hally. nin-fv: Mi<s Hally, “Colleen Bawn”; Alis.s London, nurse; Mrs. A. Gibbons, gipsy: Miss Sutherland, gipsv; Aliss M. Richardson, gipsy; Miss L Ward, Peasant. Amongst the men. Mr) A| Richardson gained first prize for his costume as “Pierrot”; Mr. Joe Banks had a splendid make-up as a nurse; Air. Clijl’oi I, as ••Raby.” caused a lot of fun. Tin* rest of the men were either cricketers. footballers, or in plain dress. A nmst enjoyable evening was spent, the Cambridge band playing at intervals during the evening. Flower Show. Ihe Presbyterians are holding their annual Hower show and sale of work in the Town Hali. It was formally opened by tin* President, Mr. \\ . F. Buckland. 3 In* hall looked remarkably bright and pretty, with tin* lovely array of Howers and the different stalls tastefully arranged. .The following were the stallholders:—Fancy work, Mrs. Gow and Airs. Murray; plain work. Airs. J. Fisher, Airs. White, ami Airs. AlcMillan; sweet stall, Aliases p. Ferguson, Fisher, and AlcGee; produce .stall, Airs. AL Roberts, Aliases Watt, ami Aliss Alolly Taylor. The tea-room was in charge of Airs. Hugh Ferguson, and tho girls assisting were dressed Swiss peasants. Air. W. F.

Buckland carried off the champion prize for the best daffodil with “The Duke of Bedford.” The table decorations were very pretty. Airs. H. Nixon carried off the first prize, her table being arranged with daffodils, purple anemones, periwinkle, and maidenhair fern. Aliss Gow also won a special prize given by Airs. F. Ross (who was judging), her table being arranged with peach blossom and other pink Howers, asparagus fern and maidenhair. Airs. Bunyarda came next with daffodils and blackberry leaves. Aliss I. Ward's table was arranged with purple anemones and violets. The table decorations for girls under 19 were very good, Aliss Alice Hally gaining a welldeserved Ist. Her Howers were daffodils, primroses and maidenhair fern. Aliss Helen Taylor, a tiny mite had arranged hers wonderfully well and gained 2nd prize. Aliss D. Hopkirk was highly commended for her table. Aliss Wells had n table of daffodils and aliunis for exhibition only, which was quite a feature of the show. A lovely basket covered with wild clematis was sent from the Government Sanatorium, and was much admired. Alaster Chris Boyce had a lovely exhibition of pot plants and ferns, grown by himself. Personal. Mrs. J. Young and her two daughters leave Cambridge next week to take up their residence in Auckland, Miss Young having disposed of her school to Aliss Keyes. Air. and Mrs. Caldwell and family have arrived in Cambridge to take up their residence. Miss Dorothy Mackay, of Devonport, is spending her holidays in Cambridge with Mrs. Dr. Roberts. EL<IE.
