PALMERSTON NORTH.

August 12. In Aid of the Chnrch. The variety entertainment got up in aid of All Saints’ Church building fund took place in the Opera House on last Tuesday. The ladies who have worked so hard and so willingly for weeks past must have been truly delighted with the brilliant result of their efforts. There was an immense audience present, and from start to finish the entertainment went with a “go” that would have been a credit to professionals. The programme was divided into three parts. In the first several beautiful tableaux were arranged, and Mr. Holey Robertson, of Wellington, sang several comic songs, which brought the house down, and he was honoured with a treble encore. The second part was devoted to Professor Bon Ton’s (Mr. L. A. Abraham) display of animated animals. The Professor was ably assisted by Mrs. Sniff, of Snuffle Alley (Mr. Gifford Moore) and kept the merriment at a high pitch. Messrs. Bond, R. Abraham, B. Pratt, F. Hankins, G. C. Keeble, and Master Tom Abraham represented the animals of the show. The last part was ia succession of beautiful dances and ballets, the colouring and whole effect being exquisite. There were nearly a hundred performers, each doing their part to perfection. Miss Russell, as “Queen of the Night,” danced a solo, which was rapturously encored; she was presented with several bouquets and baskets •of flowers. Another beautiful item was a duet danced by a rose and a brownie (the Misses Noeline Keeling and Audrey Harper); and still another sweetly pretty dance was a sojo by little Peggy Abraham, dressed as a white fairy. Mrs. L. A. Abraham, Mrs. A. E. Russell, Mrs. Warburton, and Mrs. C. J. Monro were those responsible for the management and arranging of the entertainment, and most perfectly was everything done.
