August 12. A Dance. Quite the most important social function of the season was an “At Home” given in the Brougham-street Hall, by Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Burgess, last Thursday evening, in honour of their nephew, Mr. Sydney Burgess. The hall was beautifully decorated with mirrors, framed with sprays of white camellias and peach blossom, while the many -windows and doorways were artistically draped with dainty curtains. The supper-table was charmingly decorated with stands of daffodils, with silver candlesticks at even intervals. Mrs. O. H. Burgess received her guests in a very handsome primrose satin, with tunic of cream lace, decolletage slashed with pale blue; Mrs. Paton, a lovely cream lace robe, over pale blue taffetas, bands of silver sequined guimpo on corsage; Mrs. Morrison, a charming and very handsome black lace robe, heavily sequined, over white taffetas, corsage draped with folded laee; Mrs. gladden, handsome gold 'sequined net over a foundation of pate pink taffetas; Mrs. Wylie,
